About The Project
Share a Meal with The Homeless is a bi-annual social initiative which connects people who cooked too much Christmas and Easter food with those who are fighting with hunger every day - The Homeless. It's a very easy system. Every three days after Christmas and Easter you can let us know (through an easy online form) that you have leftover, good quality, homemade food. We will drive to your house or office on the same day and pick up the food. Then we will donate the food to one of over seventy homeless shelters across Poland. And it all works absolutely for free. We work with around three hundred volunteer drivers each time, and our main team is made up of about fifty people (who are also all volunteers). So far we have been able to reach over fifty cities and towns across Poland and donate several thousand meals. Our mission statement is simple: 1. To reduce food waste at a time when traditionally Poland wastes the most. 2. To raise awareness of food waste in Poland and to teach everybody who lives in Poland that, thanks to social initiatives and movements, we don't ever have to throw food away. Instead, we can share it.
